This is the drawing everything else came from. Before there was a nine-panel grid in nine colorways, there was a single banana worked out in line — the black ink doing all the labor, the speckles on the skin, the three loose peels falling away, one of them already going brown at the tip. Set against plain white with a soft pink halo holding it in place. Drawn by hand, then printed; the color is flat and deliberate, the line is not. A study is usually the thing an artist makes on the way to the real piece, and every so often the study turns out to be the better object. Quieter than the grid. Easier to live with.

It does well in a kitchen, above a coffee setup, or in a narrow bit of wall that can't hold anything busier. If you'd rather have the loud version, that's Banana Pop — same drawing, nine times, in color — and the cheerful cousin is Happy Bananas. Both hang together well if you have the wall for it. How do I make a gallery wall with art prints?
