Grandmillennial Wall Art

The chinoiserie set is the heart of this collection. Caya drew a longhorn bull in cobalt line work, then a pair of horses — one portrait, one full body — and kept going through a chicken, a lamb, a pig and a rabbit until the whole barnyard had been rendered in Delft blue. There's a pair of cowboy boots wrapped in chinoiserie florals, and Betsy's bluebonnets done the same way, which is about as Texan as a blue-and-white print gets.

Then the dogs. Staffordshire spaniels have sat on English mantels for two hundred years; ours come in maximalist pink, in classic blue, as a matched good-luck pair, and as a tattoo-flash version that would horrify a Victorian. The cats hold their own — a preppy Staffordshire kitty, and Suki painted into chinoiserie like she was always meant to be there.

The kitchen pieces are the wink: an avocado and a croissant, each sitting on a good chinoiserie plate, plus a strawberry wallpaper print with the sugary confidence of a 1962 breakfast nook. Hang two, hang nine. Grandmillennial has never once been about restraint.
