A stout, cheerful white pig wears his markings like porcelain glaze — delft-blue peonies and scrolling flourishes painted right across his body, as if he ambled through the china cabinet and came out patterned. His snout and the insides of his ears are the only warm notes, two soft pinks that keep him a pig and not just a pattern. Around him, a wreath of blue peonies curls on cream like the border of an heirloom plate that finally got the centerpiece it deserved.
This is farm animal art with its papers in order: a county-fair pig — fed well, scrubbed clean, standing proud — painted the way the old porcelain masters would have done it if the stock show had ever come through Delft.
