A disco ball, built dab by dab: pink, teal, lilac, gold, and mint, hundreds of loose brushstrokes standing in for mirror tiles, all of it floating in a square of gray-lavender air. Betsy didn't paint the grid — she painted the glow. Up close the sphere dissolves into flecks of pastel; step back and it snaps together and starts to shimmer, the way a real one does when somebody opens a door and the light changes its mind.
