Caya called it The Cowboy Gaze because of where everybody is looking, or rather where they aren't. Neither man looks at you and neither looks at the other. It's a picture about being easy beside somebody, which is a harder thing to paint than a standoff — and a much rarer thing to find in western art.

It's the boldest color Caya has put on a western piece — bolder than most of what's in pink wall art — and the horse gives it enough weight that the pink never turns sweet. It's a picture about two people who don't need to look at each other to be comfortable, which is how it ended up in the Valentine's lineup instead of the tough-guy corner. Why is it called The Cowboy Gaze?
Because of where nobody is looking. Neither man meets your eye and neither one looks at the other. The title points at an absence rather than a subject, and what it leaves you with is the ease of standing beside somebody without needing to check on them.
What are the two men wearing?
Both are in leopard-print vests. The one in front has a pale pink hat and a white shirt. The one behind is in black with a turquoise necklace at his collar and a rein in his hand. Almost everybody misses the leopard on the second man, because that black hat reads as plain from across a room.
What is the horse doing?
Standing. He is painted black and unsaddled, reined but not held tight, and he fills the right third of the picture. He is the weight the whole composition rests on, and he is the reason all that pink never turns sweet.

Since every image is sized to fit standard frames, mixing sizes is easy: lay the arrangement out on the floor first, keep about two to three inches between frames, and center the whole grouping at eye level.
