Most of this painting is cloud: a towering cream-and-pink thunderhead climbing into deep blue sky. Down at the bottom, small as a signature, a lone cowboy rides across the scrub. And up in the corner, smaller still, a flying saucer drifts by — unhurried, unbothered, entirely plausible.
That's the whole joke, and it's told in scale: West Texas makes everything feel small, including, apparently, the visitors.
