Ann Richards Quote Print — Feminist Wall Art by Betsy Crum
On a coral-red square, black hand-lettering spells out THE HERE AND NOW IS ALL WE HAVE & IF WE PLAY IT RIGHT IT'S ALL WE NEED — and the words themselves form the silhouette of Texas. No outline drawn around them, no map underneath. The Panhandle, the Gulf curve, the long point down to the border: all of it built letter by letter from the sentence, which seems fitting for Ann Richards, who could build most anything out of a sentence. Her name is signed in light-blue script at the lower right, casual as a wave from across the room.
Richards served as the 45th Governor of Texas from 1991 to 1995, and she remains the state's patron saint of the well-timed line. This one isn't a zinger, though. It's the quieter kind of smart — the advice you actually take.
Where She'll Work in Your House
Over a desk is the obvious answer, and the right one — this is typography art you want in your sightline on a Tuesday afternoon. It holds an entry or a hallway just as well, and the coral red warms up a room full of neutrals fast. On a gallery wall it anchors the rest of our Texas art, and it keeps natural company with Caya's Molly Ivins quote print and her Ruth Bader Ginsburg quote — three women who never chased the last word but usually got it.
Betsy Crum lettered it, spelling the state out by hand one word at a time. Original Crum family artwork, printed to order — more of Betsy's work lives here.
Some quotes you pin up; this one you can govern a day by. Hang it where the workday happens and let it do its job — it makes a sure-footed Texas gift, and if the recipient runs on pink, Betsy's Mary Kay quote print offers a fine second opinion.

Product FAQ
Who was Ann Richards?
Ann Richards was the 45th Governor of Texas, serving from 1991 to 1995 — silver-haired, quick-witted, and famous for a 1988 convention keynote that introduced the whole country to Texas timing. She made governing look like something you could do with a grin.
What does the quote on this print say?
As painted: 'The here and now is all we have & if we play it right it's all we need.' It lands because it isn't lofty — it's practical optimism from a woman who clearly took her own advice.
What's unusual about the design?
The words don't sit on top of a map of Texas — they are the map. Betsy Crum hand-lettered the quote so the sentence itself forms the state's silhouette, Panhandle to border, with no outline drawn to help it. Read it once for the words, then again for the shape.
Who is the Ann Richards print a good gift for?
Graduates heading into their own here-and-now, women who run offices or are running for one, and anyone whose desk deserves a daily dose of Texas nerve. It's encouragement that doesn't nag.
Will this look like an original painting or a print?
Crum Art takes the scanning and photographing of original paintings seriously — we work to capture the texture of the canvas or paper the original was created on, so that texture shows through in the print. Combined with the cotton rag paper’s own subtle surface and the hand-signing, many customers say they cannot tell if it’s an original or a print. That’s intentional. These are not flat digital reproductions — they are fine art prints that carry the soul of the original.
What sizes does this print come in?
Our fine art prints are available in standard rectangle and square sizes. Rectangles: 8x10 unframed matted to 11x14, 11x14 unframed, 16x20, 18x24, and 24x36. Squares: 8x8 unframed matted to 12x12, 12x12 unframed, 16x16, 20x20, and 24x24. Each size ships ready to frame, making it easy to find the right fit for your wall.
How do I make a gallery wall with art prints?
Start with an anchor piece and build outward — many Crum Art prints are part of series designed to group together as a statement gallery wall, or hang individually as standalone pieces. Since every image is sized to fit standard frames, mixing sizes is easy: lay the arrangement out on the floor first, keep about two to three inches between frames, and center the whole grouping at eye level.
