What are Staffordshire dogs?
Ceramic spaniel figurines made in England's Staffordshire potteries from the early 1800s, traditionally displayed as a facing pair on a mantelpiece. They were cheap enough for ordinary households and became tokens of home and good fortune, which is why they turn up in so many inherited front rooms.
Why is the Pink Staffordshire Luck Dog pink instead of the traditional white and copper?
Because the original figurines were the safest object in the room, and Caya Crum wanted the opposite. Turning a two-hundred-year-old mantle ornament punk pink keeps the posture and the primness entirely intact while making the result maximalist rather than inherited.
