What type of beer is Shiner Bock?
Shiner Bock is a bock — an American-style dark lager brewed by the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas, where they've been brewing since 1909. It pours a deep amber-brown but drinks lighter than the color suggests, which is a big part of why Texans treat it as a year-round beer instead of a winter one. That bottle-brown glass is the exact color Betsy Crum set against the aqua field in this painting.
Why did Betsy Crum paint the Shiner bottle on an aqua background?
Color logic, mostly.
