Cigarette Art from a Family That Quit
A lit cigarette is the oldest trick in portraiture: it gives a face a clock. Something is burning down while the subject looks at you. Caya Crum figured that out painting her first smoking cowboy and never put it down. Now the cigarette runs through everything we make, the cowboys and rodeo queens, the cats, a cavalier, a cow named Hazel, a still life of Mildred's last one, a pink cigarette with a bow that Tavi could not resist. It is cigarette artwork for people who like the look and skipped the habit.
The Smoking Cowboys and Cowgirls
Clyde, Tex, Cash, Hank, Waylon, the Oil Baron, Emma, Hanna, Lana, both Mildreds. Each one on a single flat color, hot pink, mustard, navy, looking straight out of the frame with a cigarette going. They have their own wall at Smoking Cowboy Art; a few of the best live here too.
The Smoking Cats
Smokey the Cowboy Cat, Rosie the cowgirl cat, Abbie the tabby. Caya's smoking cat paintings have carried our cat wall for two years and belong in a powder room on grounds we consider self-evident. If you came here looking for a cat smoking a cigarette, you have found the right family. They hang three across in the Cat Set.
Still Lifes and the Cigarette With a Bow
Betsy's Mildred's Last Cigarette is the quiet one: an ashtray, a lipstick, one cigarette, done. Caya's Cigarettes & Coffee and Cigarettes & Oranges are the kitchen versions, and Cigarette Romance is the pink one. Her Cigarette Study, Lucky 13 is thirteen of them on pink. And Tavi's Pink Cigarette with a Bow is the one that gets photographed on bar carts, with its fridge cig and Diet Coke cousins.
Questions
Is cigarette art in style? It is having a moment. The indie sleaze revival, the fridge cigarette joke, and the cowboy wave all put the cigarette back in pictures, and searches for cigarette paintings have climbed all year. Ours have been going since 2024, which in Texas makes us the old-timers.
Where do you hang cigarette art? Bar carts, powder rooms, kitchens, dorm rooms, and the office wall for the person who quit. The smoking cowboys go over a dresser or a bar. The cats go in the bathroom. The still lifes go in the kitchen.
Is this vintage cigarette ad art? No. Every piece here is an original painting or drawing by the Crum family in Fort Worth, Texas, made into signed fine art prints. No tobacco brands, no reproductions, nobody being sold anything but a picture.
Is cigarette art a good gift? For the friend who quit, the friend who did not, and the friend whose whole personality is a Diet Coke, yes. The cigarette with a bow cocktail napkins and glass ashtray fit in a stocking; the prints are the bigger version of the same joke.
