The sign sits low in the frame, the way real roadside signs do, and the sky gets nearly everything else — a huge pastel wash of evening light, green easing into peach, the kind of sky West Texas hands out for free around suppertime. On the pole: a yellow smiley face riding on top, a red banner promising HAVE A NICE EVENING!, and below that, in businesslike black and red on white, the actual policy: "No Aholes Allowed."
That's the whole transaction. The smiley isn't softening the message — it's confirming it. Somebody got tired of a certain kind of visitor, made it official, and then sincerely wished everybody a lovely night. Betsy paints it photo-style, like you caught it out the truck window at dusk and had to circle back.
