His white coat carries blue toile florals like a glaze on old porcelain, his mane, tail, and hooves are dipped in solid navy, and behind him big orange peonies and roses bloom warm against all that blue. He's stock-show composure in china-cabinet clothes — the kind of horse a 4-H kid would stand up proudly at halter, painted the way the old French toile makers would have painted him, given the chance.

Why paint the whole horse instead of a portrait?
Because this is the conformation view — the way you'd study a horse stood up at halter in a 4-H ring, squared and in profile so nothing hides. A judge could walk around him twice and find no fault, except that he appears to be made of porcelain.
How do I decorate around the orange peonies?
Treat them as permission. He bridges strict blue-and-white rooms and warmer ones, so rust, terracotta, and honey-colored wood all suddenly count as coordinating. If your room already leans warm, he's the chinoiserie piece that won't sulk in it.
Where does a toile horse actually belong?
French and english country houses have kept toile animals for centuries — mostly on the curtains and the upholstery. This one gets a frame and a wall of his own, which works just as well over a sideboard in Texas as it would in Provence.
