The Alphabet of San Antonio — San Antonio Gifts from A to Z by Betsy Crum

Betsy built this one as a tall illustrated chart: THE ALPHABET OF SAN ANTONIO across a black title band, then twenty-six painted tiles below it, every letter earning its keep. A is for the Alamo, naturally. From there the city takes over — Cool Crest at C, Earl Abel's at E, Fiesta at F, the Guenther House at G, the Institute of Texan Cultures holding down I. K is for King William, M is for the Missions, N is for North Star, and P — well, P was always going to be Pearl.

Most city alphabets start panicking somewhere around Q. San Antonio had The Quarry standing by. R is for the River Walk, V is for La Villita, W is for the Witte Museum, and Z closes the show at the Zoo. Nobody puro makes it through the whole grid without saying "oh, I love that place" out loud at least once.

Where It'll Work in Your House

The vertical format loves a narrow wall. Hang it over a crib and a kid learns her letters and her landmarks in one go; hang it in the kitchen and it reads like a love letter over morning coffee. It anchors a gallery wall without hogging it, and it's the piece homesick San Antonians tend to hang first, wherever they've landed.

Betsy Crum, who gave this city the full A-to-Z treatment — no letter skipped, no panic at Q. Her original is printed to order, one puro copy at a time, and the rest of Betsy's collection hangs here. Same family as the Alphabet of Texas and the Austin alphabet, so one hallway can cover the whole state, one grid at a time.

Puro San Antonio, A to Z — and since P is for Pearl, Betsy's Pearl Beer Can print is the obvious next move before you wander the rest of the San Antonio collection.

Product FAQ

Is the Alamo in the Alphabet of San Antonio?

A is for the Alamo, and it only gets deeper from there: the Missions, the River Walk, the Pearl. Twenty-six tiles, no filler.

Does the San Antonio Alphabet include Fiesta?

F is for Fiesta, as it must be. If your family calendar quietly reorganizes itself every spring, this chart will read less like decor and more like a biography.

Where should the San Antonio Alphabet hang — nursery or kitchen?

Both, honestly. It's a tall, colorful chart, so it teaches letters over a crib and holds its own over a coffee station — plenty of San Antonio households end up needing two.

P is for Pearl — what should hang next to it?

Betsy's Pearl Beer Can print is the natural running mate. The alphabet names the landmark; the can print raises a glass to it.

Will this look like an original painting or a print?

Crum Art takes the scanning and photographing of original paintings seriously — we work to capture the texture of the canvas or paper the original was created on, so that texture shows through in the print. Combined with the cotton rag paper’s own subtle surface and the hand-signing, many customers say they cannot tell if it’s an original or a print. That’s intentional. These are not flat digital reproductions — they are fine art prints that carry the soul of the original.

What sizes does this print come in?

Our fine art prints are available in standard rectangle and square sizes. Rectangles: 8x10 unframed matted to 11x14, 11x14 unframed, 16x20, 18x24, and 24x36. Squares: 8x8 unframed matted to 12x12, 12x12 unframed, 16x16, 20x20, and 24x24. Each size ships ready to frame, making it easy to find the right fit for your wall.

How do I make a gallery wall with art prints?

Start with an anchor piece and build outward — many Crum Art prints are part of series designed to group together as a statement gallery wall, or hang individually as standalone pieces. Since every image is sized to fit standard frames, mixing sizes is easy: lay the arrangement out on the floor first, keep about two to three inches between frames, and center the whole grouping at eye level.
