Cutter — Smoking Art by Caya Crum

Cutter is a gray-and-white horse with a clean white blaze running straight down his nose, a cigarette hanging off his lip like he was born holding it, and a thick golden-yellow halo drawn around his whole head — which is either sainthood or a warning label, depending on how you read it. Caya Crum set him against a flat pink ground the way you'd paint somebody famous. No saddle, no fence, no scenery to hide behind. Just the face, the blaze, and the bad habit.

He runs with Caya's smoking animals — the outlaw streak of the store, same crowd as Smokey the cowboy cat and Clyde the cowboy. Nobody in this family smokes except the paintings.

Why is the horse smoking?

Cutter is the ranch's bad influence, and he's at peace with that. Caya Crum paints a whole family of smoking animals — it's the store's outlaw streak — and Cutter is its horse. Nobody said role models had to be people.

What's the yellow outline around the horse's head?

That's a thick golden halo, painted the way you'd treat a saint or a face on a concert poster. It makes Cutter glow right off the pink ground — pop-icon treatment for a horse who's earned the attention, if not the sainthood.

Where should I hang a smoking horse print?

Wherever the rules relax: over the bar, in the den, or on the biggest wall of a small apartment. Cutter does his best work in rooms where somebody's telling stories.

How do I make a gallery wall with art prints?

Start with an anchor piece and build outward — many Crum Art prints are part of series designed to group together as a statement gallery wall, or hang individually as standalone pieces. Since every image is sized to fit standard frames, mixing sizes is easy: lay the arrangement out on the floor first, keep about two to three inches between frames, and center the whole grouping at eye level.
