Clyde — the Pearl Snap Cowboy by Caya Crum

Clyde looks straight at you out of a flat blue background: tan hat, a blue-and-white striped pearl snap open at the collar, red bandana knotted underneath. Caya signed this one down in the corner inside the painting itself, which feels about right for a man this direct.

The shirt is the whole story. You know this guy. He dresses the same on a Tuesday as he does for a wedding, and he'd tell you that's exactly the point.

Where He'll Work in Your House

Clyde is easy to place, which is why he ends up on so many walls. That blue gets along with just about anything you already own. He's friendly enough for a hallway and strong enough to hang over a desk, and he'll hold a small wall on his own without needing company.

He's one of our steadiest picks for dad and for boyfriends and husbands. Clyde came off Caya Crum's brush in Texas, printed to order — her full body of work is here.

That shirt is the reason he's one of the ones people come back for, and it's how he ended up in both best sellers and Texas gifts. He's got a whole crew behind him too — different men, different shirts, different flat colors — over in cowboy art prints and on the wider western art shelf.

Product FAQ

What is Clyde wearing?

A tan hat, a blue-and-white striped pearl snap left open at the collar, and a red bandana knotted underneath. It is the plainest outfit in the whole series and the one people recognise fastest, because half of Texas owns that shirt.

Why are pearl snaps a cowboy thing?

Snaps faced with pearl let a shirt pull loose instead of catching on a saddle horn. Whether that is the true origin or just a good story, the shirt became the uniform and never stopped being it.

What is behind Clyde?

Flat blue, all the way across, with nothing in it. No sky, no horizon, no props. That empty field is why he slides in next to almost anything already hanging on your walls, and it is also why his signature sits inside the painting where you can see it.

Who is Clyde supposed to be?

Nobody in particular. Caya Crum painted him as a type she has met a hundred times over: the man who wears the same shirt to work and to a wedding and considers that a virtue rather than an oversight.

Will this look like an original painting or a print?

Crum Art takes the scanning and photographing of original paintings seriously — we work to capture the texture of the canvas or paper the original was created on, so that texture shows through in the print. Combined with the cotton rag paper’s own subtle surface and the hand-signing, many customers say they cannot tell if it’s an original or a print. That’s intentional. These are not flat digital reproductions — they are fine art prints that carry the soul of the original.

What sizes does this print come in?

Our fine art prints are available in standard rectangle and square sizes. Rectangles: 8x10 unframed matted to 11x14, 11x14 unframed, 16x20, 18x24, and 24x36. Squares: 8x8 unframed matted to 12x12, 12x12 unframed, 16x16, 20x20, and 24x24. Each size ships ready to frame, making it easy to find the right fit for your wall.

How do I make a gallery wall with art prints?

Start with an anchor piece and build outward — many Crum Art prints are part of series designed to group together as a statement gallery wall, or hang individually as standalone pieces. Since every image is sized to fit standard frames, mixing sizes is easy: lay the arrangement out on the floor first, keep about two to three inches between frames, and center the whole grouping at eye level.
