Caya painted the most beloved card in the deck the way a Texan actually feels it: a big anatomical heart, chambers and arteries and all, with a Topo Chico bottle sitting right in the middle where the trouble starts. An arrow runs clean through, one drop of blood at the tip — lotería never pretended love was painless — and EL CORAZON stands in black capitals across the bottom, all over a green-teal ground she brushed loose enough that you can still see her hand in it.
The 27 in the upper corner isn't decoration — that's El Corazón's actual seat in the traditional deck, and Caya kept it faithful. She's got a thing for cards lately: this one and the Old Masters card sharps both came out of painting what happens around a kitchen table. Lotería art has been borrowed for tattoos and love notes for generations; this is that tradition with better carbonation.

What is lotería?
A Mexican game of chance played with a deck of illustrated cards, the way bingo is played with numbers. A caller announces each card with a rhyme and everyone at the table covers their board with beans.
Why is El Corazón numbered 27?
That is the heart's actual seat in the traditional deck, and Caya kept the number where it belongs. The 27 in the corner is not decoration — anybody who grew up playing will check it first.
What kind of heart is in this painting?
An anatomical one — chambers, arteries, the whole plumbing — not the valentine shape. There is an arrow through it with a single drop of blood at the tip, and a green glass bottle standing in the middle of the chest.
What are the colors in this print?
A green-teal ground brushed loose enough that the strokes still show, red for the heart, and EL CORAZON lettered in black capitals across the bottom. It holds its own next to bright kitchen tile.
