Each one is painted individually and none of them match. Some are burned to the filter, some barely touched. The reds run from scarlet to a deep rust; the whites go grey-blue where the ash starts. The rows are almost tidy and not quite — one leans, one sits shorter than the rest — and that small failure of order is what makes it a painting rather than a diagram.
It is a still life about aftermath. Somebody sat there a long time. The pink underneath is soft and slightly chalky and does the opposite of what the subject is doing, which is the tension the whole piece runs on — pretty ground, hard habit. Caya does this repeatedly and this is the most stripped-back version of it.

What size should I get? 12x12 or 16x16 holds the grid best — you want to be able to read the individual cigarettes. At 8x8 it reads as a pink rectangle from across a room. 24x24 turns it into a statement and the brushwork holds up.
Does it come framed? No — prints ship unframed, and the 8x8 includes its mat. A plain black or natural wood frame suits it; anything ornate fights the subject.
Is it too much for a shared space? It is more graphic than provocative — most people read it as a colour study before they read it as cigarettes. If in doubt, it is a better fit for a personal room than a family one.
