These are funny art prints drawn and painted in Fort Worth, Texas, by four people who think a wall should have at least one thing on it that makes you laugh out loud.
Weird Art, the Good Kind
Some of this leans weird. The UFO Diner, the Creation of Sonic, the Duck Lady, the Cigarettes & Oranges mosaic. It is quirky wall art with dream logic, familiar things made slightly unfamiliar, bright color paired with an uncanny calm. People call it weirdcore and we do not argue. Where Funny Art Hangs
The powder room, where a guest is stuck looking at your walls for eleven seconds. The kitchen, next to the toaster. The bar cart. The dorm. What makes funny wall art actually funny? Restraint. One strange thing in an otherwise serious frame. A Big Mac painted like a Dutch still life is funnier than a cartoon of a Big Mac. Everything here is painted straight; the joke is in what got painted.
What is weirdcore art? An aesthetic built on dream logic: nostalgic, familiar imagery made slightly off, with a surreal edge. Our version is fast food out of context, Old Masters in the wrong century, and animals with agendas.
Is funny art a good gift? It is the housewarming gift people actually hang, because it is the one they will be asked about. The ribbons are the safe pick. The Gerber Big Mac is for the friend with a sense of humor you are sure about.
Who makes these? Mostly Caya Crum, with Betsy's Vienna Sausage and Liquid Paper, Carl's signs, and Tavi's cigarette with a bow. A family of four in Fort Worth, Texas, two generations, since 1996.
