A brown-and-tan rabbit sits calm and upright among blue-and-white ginger jars, each jar painted with its own tiny bird, while orange peonies climb the toile behind her. She is the warm one of our chinoiserie set: where her siblings turned delft blue, she stayed exactly the color a rabbit ought to be, and the orange florals lean in to agree with her. The result is blue and white art with a golden streak — porcelain pattern, cottagecore art heart, and one entirely unbothered rabbit holding court in the middle of it.

Why is the rabbit brown when the rest of the chinoiserie set is blue?
Because she's a rabbit, and rabbits don't take direction. The rest of the set went porcelain blue and white; she sat down in her own brown coat among the ginger jars and dared the painter to argue. Nobody argued.
How do I decorate around a blue-and-orange piece?
Easily — blue and orange sit opposite each other on the color wheel, so they flatter each other on sight. She keeps happy company with blue willow china, warm wood, terracotta, and linen, and she's the piece that lets a strict blue-and-white room finally warm up.
