Cigarette with a Bow — Fridge Cig Art by Tavi Crum

A single cigarette stands up straight on a field of soft pink with a red bow tied around its middle and one curl of smoke rising off the end. That is the whole picture, and it does not need anything else. Tavi Crum paints the fridge cig the way it deserves: as a small ceremony. This is the next piece in her fridge cig series, after Fridge Cig Neat, and it is the girlier of the two — coquette art with a filter.

The pink is chalky and calm, the bow is painted loose and a little uneven, and the tobacco end is flecked like the real thing. Up close it is clearly a painting; from across the room it reads as one clean shape. As pink wall art it works in the places pink usually can't get into — a bar cart, a bathroom, a dorm wall, an office with a sense of humour — and as bow wall art it is the one in the coquette room that has a joke in it.
