Both cowboys stand ready to fend off any oncoming threats — except in this case, each hand holds a slightly ripe banana. By replacing guns with bananas, this painting playfully undermines traditional ideas of masculinity, conflict, and cowboy mythology, inviting viewers to find both humor and tenderness in this summer scene.
