Comp Arnold's Cowboy Hats — Western Art by Carl Crum

These two hats belonged to Comp Arnold, a North Texas farmer and rancher who worked the land through the 1930s and '40s and then some, and raised two girls while he was at it. One summer straw, one winter felt, photographed from above exactly as decades of work left them, the crowns collapsed into shapes no hat store ever sold.

It's cowboy hat art with nothing invented. The wear is the story.
